Rules

Midwest Winged Car Series ( F2K,Group 12, Cobalt 12, Group 27, Group 7)

  • General (wing car) rules and specifications are the same as USRA with these exceptions…
  • Tire Rule

In order to support the track owners, one set of tires must be purchased at the raceway to use                     during each class. Tires purchased MUST be available through distributors. Your entry fee gives you a $15.00 credit toward these tires. Costs of tires purchased that have a higher price than $15.oo will be incurred by the racer.  These tires must be run for one full heat during the race. Any other tire

may be used during any other heat.

  • No Motor Changing
Only one motor is allowed. (In races where there are qualifying heats, one motor is allowed for the qualifying race, a second motor is allowed for the main. No motor changing is allowed in any race. The maximum number of motors you could use is two. The obvious reason for this rule is to reduce the cost and time associated with building and using many motors in a race. It has not escaped us that with this “one motor rule”; a racer may borrow a motor from someone who has extras, increasing the number of entrants.
  • Minimum weights for cars. (62 grams for F2K, 60 grams for Group 12, 48 grams for all other classes.)
  • Motors may have only “single” magnets
  • Only solid steel axles may be used (no lightweight, filled, or hollow axles).

Racing Procedure

  • The glue format is spray glue.
  • There is no qualifying.
Starting lane is chosen at random. All entrants run in an 8-segment qualifying race. The top 8 lap totals (from all qualifying races) go to the main.
  • Only one motor many be used per race.
You may use one for the qualifying race(if required by a large number of entries), another for the main. At the National Championship G7race,  G7 motors MUST be run. No G27 motors will be allowed for this race only in the G7 Class
  • Driver Classification.
Drivers in F2k, Box 12, and Cobalt 12 will be rated as Gold and Silver drivers. Gold drivers are those that are more experienced and will compete in the same races but will be awarded points within their driver rating classification.
  • Entry Fees

Entry fees will be $25.00 per race and will include one set of tires, purchased out of the track         owners inventory. Tires that are legal must be available through distributors and sell for

$15.00 or less.

  • Midwest wing car rules are the same as USRA general Wing Car rules on side dams, width, armature specifications, etc. If you are unsure please ask. Differences are as follows:
  • Clearance .062 at the rear of the car.
  • Steel, Aluminum, Carbon Fiber or any combination there of is legal.
  • Minimum chassis length is 4.00 long
  • Minimal track-calls. Exceptions include: Drivers panel, Un-marshallable, Unsafe condition.
  • Riders are a track-call.
  • Only single magnet motors are allowed. (no quads, six, eight mags, etc.)
  • Minimum car weights: 62 grams for Group F 2K, 60 grams for  Group 12, 48 grams for Cobalt 12, Group 27 and for Group 7 cars.
  • Solid steel axles only. No hollow or lightweight axles. (Small flats for tires/gears OK)
  • Any pitch gear permitted.

  • Group 12: May use any past or present USRA approved Group 12 Chassis. Under weights are permitted.
  • No shunt wire.
  • May use any manufactures' .513 - .518 dia. Group 12 armature.
  • May use any past or present approved Group-12 setup.
  • Parts may be intermixed between manufactures.
  • Magnets may be epoxied and honed. Magnet clips are not required.
  • Ball Bearings are allowed on the rear axles for all classes.

  • Group-F 2K:
  • Chassis
    1. Any past or present Spec-15, Group-12 or Group-F is chassis allowed.
    2. Weight will be 62g
    3. Attached pans may be removed from the chassis.
    4. Chassis must have front pin tube solid.
    5. Rear pin tube may float or be solid.
    6. Chassis must be assembled as directed by the manufacturer. No other alterations!
    7. Chassis must be steel.
    8. Axle bearings allowed.
  • Motor F2k
The only motor allowed for F2k is the ProSlot Speedball sealed  motor.
All other general wing car rules apply. This class is open to all who wish to participate. We do however recommend Group-F 2K as a great place for new or returning drivers.

  • Points
  • Points will be awarded for finishing positions in each race. Points are awarded as follows: 1st =25, 2nd = 20, 3rd = 18, 4th = 15, 5th = 12, 6th = 10, 7th = 8, 8th = 6, 9th = 4, 10th = 2.  All other finishers receive 1 point. In the F2k class as well as Box 12 drivers will be rated Bronze or Gold depending on their abilities.  Although all drivers will be in the same race, only Bronze drivers will be competing for points among each other. The highest finishing Bronze driver will receive first place points. The finishing order will be sorted by class.

  • Points Drop
  • All racers will drop the lowest points race that they will were awarded during the season. Zeros or no point races do not count against the drop.
